Many Communities on Long Island, are in denial with regard to crime. I have been told, "off of the record," that some of our neighboring communities, are having crime problems, that when compared to our local problems, make our village look like Disneyland.

Denial is the key word! Public officials are sweeping Hot Coals, under the Rug, only to have the entire Rug, go up in flames! Officials are hoping and praying that the crime will just go away; it won't. The time has come to face our problems, and follow a coarse of action that has worked for us in the past! We must again bring our constabulary up to the strength it was twelve years ago; that is Thirty Two Officers!

I as a former Auxiliary Police Officer, and Village Code Officer, can personally attest to the effectiveness of our Patchogue Village, neighborhood patrols.

We the residents of Patchogue Village should not have to go on patrol to protect our community; security issues should be handled by our local government. I have, and urge everyone in our Neighborhood Watch Area, to go on patrol, looking for potential problems, until such time our constabulary is brought up to it's former strength.

The Police Department also plays a "key role," in solving our Neighborhood Problems. Our Patchogue Village Constabulary, generally deal with "Quality of Life Issues;" but will call the Police Department as soon as a benign situation escalates into something more serious.

Along with increasing the strength of our constabulary, may I suggest the formation of a "Civilian Review Board." This Board would monitor both the Constabulary, and the Fire Dispatchers that receive and dispatch their calls. We, the Maple Avenue Neighborhood Watch, have received complaints from our membership, about both the Constabulary, and Fire Dispatchers! The constabulary is our only hope for a crime free neighborhood. We will do whatever must be done to protect our investments, houses, and Families.

Baker Family of Patchogue, Wins Building Department House Decorating Contest
The Baker Family that lives at 68 Amity Street, in Patchogue, won the House Decorating Contest. Their house decorated with lights and figurines, was selected as "number one!" This is the first annual House Decorating Contest, run by the Patchogue Village Building Department. This Municipal Department is setting an example by both enforcing building standards, and also rewarding residents for beautiful initiatives that contribute to make our village a nicer place to live.

A gift certificate for two dinners was given to the Baker family, by John Zehn, owner of the Dragon and Phonix Chinese Restaurant, on South Ocean Avenue, in Patchogue. This restaurant has recently received an award at the Javits Center, for being one of the Top 100 Chinese Restaurants, in the Country.

If you hurry, the display may still be up on Amity Street!

Youths on Bicycles, Causing Damage

A few nights ago, youths on bicycles, were reported as riding their Bicycles over the top of cars in Patchogue. Yes they put the front wheel of their Bicycle on the hood of a car, then drive over the roof, onto the trunk, then onto the pavement. Does this damage a car? absolutely!

It's unfortunate that two or three misguided youths, ruin the reputation of the multitude of "Great kids," that live in our village.

Patchogue Resident Donates Flag to Church
A local, long time resident of Patchogue, after hearing about the theft of the Flag, from Emanuel Lutheran Church, offered his Flag to the Church. The local resident who lives near the Maple Avenue Associate, did not want his name publicized. The Flag was given to him by the wife of his "Wartime Buddy," who lost his life in Vietnam.

The Norbert Folwaczny, Pastor of Emanuel Lutheran Church said, "We would be honored to receive this flag and fly it. It's wonderful that people in the community care so much."

I hope that the donated Flag is not too big for their display location. We will fly the flag within the next few weeks to determine if it is an acceptable size.

Patchogue, Philip Butler, and our Nativity Scene again make the New York Times, online edition!
December 23, 2007
The online edition of the New York Times could very well have more coverage than the printed edition. Unlike the paper edition, this online edition could be viewed throughout the world.

Quoting a comedian that appeared this summer, at our Patchogue Theatre; "where the hell is Patchogue?" Well, because of the "Keep Christ in Christmas" Campaign, Patchogue is now known from New York to South Africa! Finally, somewhere in the world, somebody is standing up; refusing to accept the directives from the "politically correct crowd!"

MUST READ ARTICLE IN DAN'S PAPERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Artist from Milan, is arrested at his Premier Art Exhibit in Southampton; he allegedly stole over 2,000 light bulbs, and glued them together, to make his Masterpiece!

The article is hysterical; I would have paid anything to have attended the Art Show! The "scene" at that Art Show would make a great movie.

Click the link on the next line to read the article that was published in "Dan's Papers."

http://www.danshamptons.com/content/danspapers/issue39_2007/10.html

Where would a person go to steal over 2,000 light bulbs?

I wonder if this artist also had a Christmas Tree at his display?

There is a good chance that we are not dealing with a local Misguided Child, but a "Misguided Artist from Milan! Ha! Ha! Ha! I can't believe it!

Lights Stolen From the Nativity Scene in Patchogue
In two occasions within the last two weeks, the lights from the K of C, Nativity Scene, in Patchogue, were stolen. The monetary loss for the Christmas lights was minimal, but we are more concerned with the intent. I am more inclined to believe that we are dealing with a few misguided children, acting like children! If you should see any suspicious activity near the Nativity, please call 475 1225 (475 Christmas)

Christmas Tree Stolen From Emanuel Lutheran Church on East Main Street
A six foot Christmas tree and two Flags, were stolen from a Christmas display that was set-up in front of the church. The tree was held down with heavy wires, which were cut, in order to steal the Christmas Tree.

Now! Who would steal a Christmas tree? This is a “No-Brainer;” it must be a Christian! Obviously this “Christian,” does not know anything about the Bible; if he did, he wouldn’t have stolen the tree in the first place!

If you steal a Christmas Tree from my property, you may have a problem; if you steal a tree from God’s property, you absolutely, beyond a doubt will have a very big problem. From a Christian viewpoint, once you loose “Davine Protection,” everything in your life could “go wrong.”

Message Directed to the Person Who Stole the Christmas Tree
Do yourself and your community a favor! Return the tree, and the Flags! The flags have no value on the market, but are valuable to the church.

We Are Guilty of Littering
Saturday 12/22/2007:
While feverishly doing my Christmas shopping, I noticed a few Neighborhood Watch Signs, that were still fastened to poles, from our last meeting. OK! Then I also noticed that many of the Plastic Straps, that were used to hold our signs, were still attached to the poles, where our signs were displayed. I recall asking our membership to remove our signs, but I didn't consider that they would have to deal with the "Plastic Straps!" These straps are impossible to remove, without tools! In Fact; these straps are used by some Police Agencies as Handcuffs! They simply can not be removed, easily! Two hours later, all of the straps have been removed, Plus, debris left by other people. My apologies to the Village of Patchogue!

Have a Merry Christmas

Computer Security Test:
QUESTION:
"Is it possible for someone to Hack into my computer without me knowing it?"

ANSWER:
Absolutely!

QUESTION:
"Is it possible for someone to steal data from my computer without me knowing it?"

ANSWER:
Yes! If you leave the doors open!

I will present this very complex subject, in a very simple way, using Analogies. There is no need for the casual user to fully understand the jargon, used by Computer Geeks!

QUESTION:
Leave the doors open?

ANSWER:
Yep! A computer can be compared to a hotel that has 65 thousand doors. Big hotel! The trick to good computer security is to lock the doors when no one has need to use them, and camouflage the doors that must remain open.

QUESTION:
How can I check my computer for security?

ANSWER:
Ask a professional to try and hack into your computer; and then give you a free report!

QUESTION:
OK How do I do that?

ANSWER:
IT Professionals use GRC.COM to scan their computers for vulnerabilities. There are also other programs that IT Professionals use, but this particular program is user friendly. I consider this to be safe; and have always allowed GRC to test my computer.

1. Open a Browser such as Internet Explorer.
2. On the second line from the top, type "grc.com" (don't type the quotes)
3. You will see "ShieldsUp" -- Click "Proceed;" scroll down until you see the line that says "ShieldsUp." -- "Left click" it.
4. Read the Greetings Screen.
5. Left click "All Service Ports."
6. The Graphic Report should display ALL GREEN DOTS, and display the message, "All Ports Stealth." If a dot of any color other than Green appears, you computer is indeed vulnerable!

Passing this test means that your computer is reasonably safe from hackers, although there are many more sophisticated ways to hack into your computer.

HOW DID YOU MAKE OUT?

Send an E-mail to the address below!

HAPPY COMPUTING!

A prominent resident who resides on North Ocean Avenue is now in the process of starting a new Neighborhood Watch Group in her area. She said that she will be modeling this new group after the Maple Avenue Neighborhood Watch. She has been extended an invitation to discuss details of forming a NW Group. We would be glad to help in any way that we can! It would be mutually beneficial if both groups could always maintain a communications link. It is important for us to know what is going on in their area,; and for them to know what is going on in our area. Our Best! Don't hesitate to call! You could also use the E-mail Address Below.

The Evergreen Choir Performs in Patchogue
Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007:

I was pleasantly surprised by the performance of an "A Cappella" singing group called "The Evergreen Choir." As I approached the site of the Concert, the "Conservatory Grade," voices were apparent. The Evergreen Choir is a professional A Cappella ensemble that has been performing throughout Long Island and New York for over 11 years. Upon hearing about Philip Butler and the local Knights of Columbus in their attempt to take back Christmas - Director, Philip Barone and members of The Evergreen Choir were happy to volunteer there time and voices towards this very noble cause.

Please forgive the background noise from passing vehicles; the video clips were taken, not in a studio, but on location. This is not all bad; the cars were honking their horns in approval and support of this wonderful concert.

Studio quality Audio Clips are available on their Web Site:
www.theevergreenchoir.com

(Click the bottom arrow twice to start the video!)

These talented singers entertained Patchogue Residents at the location of the Nativity Display, on Main Street, Near the Patchogue Theatre. Dressed in costumes that would be worn in the Eighteenth Century, they did indeed capture the spirit of the Christmas Holiday.

(Click the bottom arrow twice to start the video!)

It is not absolutely necessary for people to communicate vocally. A few patrons of our Patchogue Theatre, left the theatre a few minutes before the theatre performance was over. I watched the faces of the numerous couples that would walk-up to the Concert location, they would look at each other, smile, and then with a "smile of appreciation," enjoyed the rest of the Evergreen Choir Performance. Their faces told the story! They were really saying, thank you for performing in our Village, and not a word was spoken!

A women came up to me and said, "Where is News Twelve?" I totally agree with her. Our mainstream media is often too involved with a classic model, of what type of programming, they think the people want to see, on TV, Radio, and in the Newspapers. I really enjoyed News Twelve, many years ago, when they first started their company. At that time they covered many of the small local functions, such as this one. It's still not too late! I would love to again see The Evergreen Choir, perform in Patchogue, complete with News Twelve, to cover the event! I did see what appeared to be a professional Photographer taking a few photos, hopefully they will be printed in one of our local Newspapers.

Merry Christmas
Happy Hanukkah
Happy Quanza

Jewish Community Light the Menorah

On Sunday December 9, 2007 at Six PM, members of the Jewish Community gathered at the North Fork Bank Plaza, to Light the Menorah. As reported by JB, a large crowd gathered to participate in this Patchogue Village event. The event started at Six PM; the Photographer arrived at Seven PM. What was I thinking! This event represents one of the things that makes America great; "Freedom of Religion."

Commerce and the Religious Community

Within the last few years there has been a movement to Separate Religion from Commerce. The intent was to make all religious holiday references, generic. The most vocal groups that did not believe in religion, managed to start a trend, that would eventually remove the words such as Christmas, Hanukkah, and Christmas Tree from all signs in retail stores. The signs for these holidays, such as the Menorah, and Cross, were also unofficially banned from commerce. The Atheist Community, who indeed do have the right to their beliefs, pushed on, and the Christian and Jewish Community remained silent.

From a merchant's standpoint, I could understand why this was done. A merchant is not in the business of selling Religion. He sells clothes, cars, boats, hardware and whatever! The bottom line is they must make enough money to pay the bills, and draw a salary for themselves. With the advent of the "Mall," this can be an insurmountable problem. The merchant must do whatever it takes to keep his business. Problems arise because many merchants make most of their annual profit, via sales that are directly connected to religious holidays!

So what is the merchant to do? If a major attack is coming from one religious group, he would do what it takes to stop the attack. In this case diluting and burying the symbols of the Jewish and Christian Religions, quenched the attack! This action was only a temporary fix for an ever growing problem. The Christian and Jewish Communities eventually realized what had happened, and are now the attackers, instead of the Atheist Community.

We are not the same nation that we were five years ago! Just take a walk down "Main Street USA," and listen to the people talk. You might be surprised at what you hear! We, are no longer just descendants of European Immigrants! We now live in an International Community that will further exasperate the problem. The problem is not the new immigrants, it's the fact that our merchants must now learn to deal with the multitude of new religions that are surfacing daily. The equation gets more complicated! The Christian Community is protesting now, with seven other religious groups, standing in line! No religious group wants their beliefs, diluted! It is only a matter of time until the Muslim, Buddhist, Native American, Indian, and Porto Rican Communities, take their turn at demanding respect for their beliefs.

The dilution strategy has failed miserably! If I were a merchant I would quickly adopt an all inclusive acceptance policy, for religions. In order to prevent one religion from taking offense with another because of surmised favoritism, a public statement of policy must be made on posters in every store, such as the following!

"WE RESPECT AND HONOR ALL THE RELIGIONS OF THE WORLD COMMUNITY!"

Now all and every religion will be presented in the form of informative posters. This type of presentation does not constitute acceptance or favoritism. The community leaders from each of the religions that will be presented on posters, will actually write the text, and sign it!

EG.1. The merchant would display a poster saying "Merry Christmas," followed by an explanation of Christmas, by a local Priest.

EG.2. The Jewish Community would have their poster that is clearly labeled, Happy Hanukkah. The text would be written by a local Rabi, and also signed by the Rabi.

EG.3. The Atheist would have a poster stating "his beliefs. He too must also sign his poster!

What we have here is an "Academic Statement of Fact," as compiled by local Clergy, Monks, and religious representatives. The merchant did not sign the Poster! The merchant did not compose the poster! The Merchant did not say a word to indicate acceptance or sponsorship of any of the posters! The only thing the merchant actually did, was to post a statement of the "Official Store Policy;" which is:

WE RESPECT AND HONOR ALL RELIGIONS OF THE WORLD COMMUNITY!

Who could take offense with that?
