Grounds of the Sixth District Court in Patchogue, not Properly Maintained By Suffolk County!
What is Your First Impression of Patchogue Village?
If one could drive directly into Patchogue village, bypassing the west end of town, one's impression might be favorable. The Patchogue Garden Club and Chamber of Commerce, have always worked feverishly to maintain the appearance of our "home town."

Our village government and service clubs, have not been sitting idle, "just watching the flowers grow." Our elected officials, friends, and neighbors, have militantly addressed quality of life issues, resulting in the demolition of the old Lace Mill. Briarcliff College currently resides at that location.

The first impression of the West side of Patchogue Village would and should be very favorable, but we do have an impediment to our A+ rating; the Suffolk County Sixth District Courthouse, on Main Street, Patchogue.

The Sixth District Court landscaping has for years, been neglected, by the County of Suffolk. Last July an email and photos of the Sixth District Court grounds, was sent to the Suffolk County Highway Department, at their request. One year later, new photos were taken, revealing the same neglect, that directly reflects on our village. The Hedges are not trimmed, and the flower Beds are filled with Weeds, instead of Flowers.

Hedges are not Trimmed or Groomed

The first impression is most important! As soon as a prospective customer or homeowner sees the disarray at the Sixth District Court grounds, they will certainly have a negative opinion of Patchogue Village. The resale value of our homes can be directly equated to the appearance of our village shopping area.
*
If a municipality does ten things right, and one thing wrong, the prospective customers and homeowners, will always forget the good things, and forever remember the bad! In addition the bad things will forever be vocalized at every opportunity! life is a stage, and the game of life mandates that no one be given the opportunity to see anything that could be perceived as flawed!

Las Vegas Nevada Landscape
In contrast I have provided a few photos of the Las Vegas, Nevada, Town Square shopping area. As you can see, the visual candy will indeed encourage a potential customer or homeowner to consider this location.

Hopefully the County of Suffolk will hear our plea, and properly maintain the grounds of the Sixth District Court, in Patchogue.

The "Great Patchogue Lake" is Currently Inaccessible!
As you can see, our lake is fenced in. There have been questions as to why the fence was put up in the first place. Photos were taken on Lake St. near Briarcliff Collage. Both the Patchogue Beautification Committee and the Concerned Citizens Committee have been for years, trying to flaunt, preserve, and protect our beautiful lakes, with limited success.

Obstructed View of "Great Patchogue Lake," from Lake St.

Fence Looking East down Lake Street

Debris is allowed to accumulate behind the fence, which could ultimately finding its way into the lake.

This is the beautiful view of the "Great Patchogue Lake,"that we could have, if only the area was cleaned up!
(Photo was taken between a link in the existing Chain Link fence)
Robert Calarco, who is the Chief of Staff, for Legislator Jack Eddington, says that Legislator Eddington is committed to helping in every way that he can!
Jack is currently working with the DPW, as well as the County Attourneys Office.

Patchogue Village has been a productive player in the effort to sustain our lake.
Our Village applied for and was granted special funds to help sustain our Beautiful lake. Patchogue Lake was stocked with special fish, that by virtue of their eating habits, will control the growth of undesirable vegetation.
I looked at the lake, and the fish appear to be doing their job!

Swan Lake Needs Help Too!
Which view do you prefer?

The first photo is what a passing westbound motorist should see, when entering Patchogue from the Montauk Highway. Unfortunately the second photo depicts the actual view as a motorist passes Swan Lake; the view is totally obstructed with overgrown foliage.

Debris is allowed to accumulate ultimately creating a "muck" that is commonly found in a swamp!

Canadian Geese also a problem:
The Canadian Geese are also creating a situation that needs some attention. Canadian Geese have dominated both Swan Lake, and Patchogue Lake!

Reclaiming Swan Lake is a bit more problematic, because responsibility for this specific location involves both the Town, and the County Government. In addition, the Swan Lake Park Civic Association, is also an active player in the ongoing proceedings!

Hopefully we will reclaim Swan Lake, as well as Patchogue Lake this summer!
