Grounds of the Sixth District Court in Patchogue, not Properly Maintained By Suffolk County!
What is Your First Impression of Patchogue Village?
If one could drive directly into Patchogue village, bypassing the west end of town, one's impression might be favorable. The Patchogue Garden Club and Chamber of Commerce, have always worked feverishly to maintain the appearance of our "home town."

Our village government and service clubs, have not been sitting idle, "just watching the flowers grow." Our elected officials, friends, and neighbors, have militantly addressed quality of life issues, resulting in the demolition of the old Lace Mill. Briarcliff College currently resides at that location.

The first impression of the West side of Patchogue Village would and should be very favorable, but we do have an impediment to our A+ rating; the Suffolk County Sixth District Courthouse, on Main Street, Patchogue.

The Sixth District Court landscaping has for years, been neglected, by the County of Suffolk. Last July an email and photos of the Sixth District Court grounds, was sent to the Suffolk County Highway Department, at their request. One year later, new photos were taken, revealing the same neglect, that directly reflects on our village. The Hedges are not trimmed, and the flower Beds are filled with Weeds, instead of Flowers.

Main Flower Bed Contains no Flowers, Just Weeds

Hedges are not Trimmed or Groomed

The first impression is most important! As soon as a prospective customer or homeowner sees the disarray at the Sixth District Court grounds, they will certainly have a negative opinion of Patchogue Village. The resale value of our homes can be directly equated to the appearance of our village shopping area.
*
If a municipality does ten things right, and one thing wrong, the prospective customers and homeowners, will always forget the good things, and forever remember the bad! In addition the bad things will forever be vocalized at every opportunity! life is a stage, and the game of life mandates that no one be given the opportunity to see anything that could be perceived as flawed!

Las Vegas Nevada Landscape
In contrast I have provided a few photos of the Las Vegas, Nevada, Town Square shopping area. As you can see, the visual candy will indeed encourage a potential customer or homeowner to consider this location.

Hopefully the County of Suffolk will hear our plea, and properly maintain the grounds of the Sixth District Court, in Patchogue.

Yes, a few weeds are unsightly coming into Patchogue Village from the west, but how does that compare to what resembles a post war disaster area coming into town from the east! The Plaza, Rollics, Ottos, vacant stores, torn up sidewalks, empty lots, dilapidated buildings, abandoned gas stations, on and on and on. And let's not forget what we must endure from the north...the ridiculous "landing strip" down North Ocean Ave.! We should be ashamed of what this town has become. I'll take the weeds!

The Plaza, Ottos, and Rolics, are not in the village of Patchogue. Please go to the archive of this Blog and read the post dated Wednesday, April 8, 2009. Jack Eddington is indeed working toward demolishing the Plaza. The Patchogue Village community is indeed working toward correcting the situation on the East end of town. Sorry, you are talking defeat, we will continue to fight. It is absolutely dumb to accept "Weeds" because the Plaza Theatre looks lousy! By the way, the residents on North Ocean Avenue just love the "Landing Strip Lights!" My wife doesn't! Somehow hundreds of children showed up under the "Landing Strip lights" on Halloween; they just felt comfortable there!
Please don't give up the ship!

Ashamed what this town has become? You must be kidding. Patchogue Village is the best kept secret on Long Island and I love living here!
I agree with the post about the county courthouse and this has been a problem for years - easily ten years or more. The citizens of Patchogue have complained to the county over and over again. If the county is not going to maintain the flower beds they should pull them all out and just make it grass. At least that gets cut.
I also agree with the writer who said the east side of Patchogue is an eyesore, and I thank the webmaster for pointing out that that is not in the Village! However, the writer must not be aware that there is a multimillion dollar improvement project underway, and the Plaza is in the process of condemnation, so take heart! Its a slow process but East Main Street is getting the facelift it deserves.
As for the "runway", enough already! I'll take the current version of North Ocean Avenue over what it looked like just two years ago. The new road, sidewalks and lighting make it a wonderful "red carpet" into the village, and since they changed the bulbs its not so bright anymore. As the webmaster said, the people who live there love it and I do too. I head down Ocean to my home in the south of the village because its is such a pleasant drive. You'd take weeds over that? I don't think so.
The glass is half full - stop trying to make it half empty all the time!

Thanks for posting - I have also complained to Suffolk DPW that the grounds of the Sixth District Court look run down. I hope that the county will correct this situation!

I, too, enjoy the trip in and out of the village via Ocean Ave. I go out of my way to use that pathway home. As far as the courthouse area...if we complain enough and join forces, some action will be taken. Maybe we should clean it up ourselves as a community. Might get some newsworthy attention and put the county officials responsible for the mess in the spotlight. There is still a lot to clean up in the village and surrounding area, but it's better than it was just a few years ago. Congrats and thanks to those who are working to improve things and to the web master who is bringing this community through communication.

Suffolk County 6th District Court Property - Thanks for helping to bring this to light. I know we aren’t Las Vegas , but can’t we have a little respect?
