Restaurant Review:
Main Street Cafe Restaurant, Patchogue, NY
During the Christmas season I purchased a few Christmas Presents in Patchogue Village. I suddenly glanced over and saw the Main Street Café Restaurant. As I recalled; I had purchased a Wrap at the location of that store, some five years ago. I decided to walk over to the Main Street Café and have lunch.The store that I remembered was sold to the DeSimone Family, two years ago, who modernized it and transformed it into a delightful Restaurant. They still sold Breakfast and lunch items, such as omelets, wraps, and sandwiches; but it is the Dinner Menu that attracted my attention.
While waiting for my food to be prepared a waitress gave me a menu to read. After reading only five lines from the Dinner Menu, I knew that the Chef “Knew what he was doing,” and the food had to be delicious! Coming from a family of “world class cooks,” it didn’t take me long to recognize a Gourmet Chef, and a quality restaurant!
The following Saturday night, my wife and I decided to have dinner at the Main Street Café. My wife ordered “Veal Marsala,” and I ordered “Risotto Pescattorre.” The Menu is written in Italian, with the English translation next to the Italian words. We started to eat, and fifteen seconds thereafter, my wife said to me, “I’m glad we came to this restaurant; this food is delicious!” Coming from my wife, this is the biggest complement that a chef could receive. When it comes to culinary issues, my wife is skillfully discerning.
My Risotto Pescattorre, which is Rice and Fish, was equally as delicious. The Risotto was beautifully seasoned, and had a wonderful taste of its own, without the help of the other ingredients; that’s what made it so special! When eating the Risotto Pescattorre, you would get one distinctive taste from the Rice, and another complementary taste from the fish.
Do yourself a favor, bring your wife, family, or girl friend to the Main Street Café Restaurant, and enjoy some really delicious food! If you order soup, try the “Pasta & Fagioli.

"Patchogue First" Press Conference:
Many of us often vote for a candidate simply because they appear on "Row A, or Row B, or Row C!" Why? Very few of us have the time or facility to gather information about what our Local Government has done, and what they plan to do in the future! Modern technology has changed "all that!"
While looking through the "Local News Feed" section of our Blog (Gazette), I stumbled across an article that said "Patchogue First Press Conference!" After tracking down the actual Web location of the Press Conference, I was ecstatic to see that our Mayor and Trustees, who are members of the "Patchogue First Party," put up a Web Site, complete with videos, airing their recent Press Conference.
I'm still jumping up and down in my chair! Patchogue Village, the little two square miles village, is once again blazing yet another trail; this time, on the Internet! Their Web Site contains four videos, showing their Press Conference in it's entirety! Wow! It's like going to the movies, and watching a Newsreel! This is exciting! How about a "Monthly Video Address" from the Mayor?

Certain people and places are "Sacred" to me! It is impossible to say anything bad about Frank Sinatra, John Wayne, Bing Crosby, Fire Island, and Eastern Long Island! Even if you say something bad, I would smile and not hear a word that you say, by dismissing everything. After all you can't mess with things that are sacred to me!
Not a week passes, without my wife and I taking a trip to the North Fork, Montauk, Orient, East Hampton, Westhampton and wherever! Eastern Long Island is one of our favorite venues! When dealing with the many delightful Towns on Eastern Long Island, I have a tendency to perceive them through my Heart, instead of my head. My heart sees these quaint villages as sterile! Sterile from the standpoint of being free, or even immune to crime. It simply doesn't happen there! Right! Then my Brain kicks in! My Brain forces me to deal with reality! Crime in the Hamptons; it really does happen!
I was saddened to see that The towns of Easthampton, and Sag Harbor, had the same type of problem that we had last year. Storefront and Car Windows were broken by vandals. Where can we go to get away from common vandals? They are everywhere!
So what is the answer? The answer is obvious! England has been keeping this type of problem under control for years; they use Video Cameras and Recording Equipment. Some may say "Oh! Big brother is watching!" We don't want that! Actually with certain mandated restrictions, Video Servailence could be palatable to everyone. The bottom line is that the video tapes, should only be viewed, when a crime has been committed. The contents of a video tape, could only be given to the media, to locate a suspect. Stony Brook University has shown the way, by getting a video Image of a suspected robber.
We should start now and protect that which is sacred to us!

Ella McLean Receives Presidential Award:
This event took place six months ago but unfortunately we did not have the facility to publicize this grand event, at that time!
The real spirit of giving, is giving of ones personal time and resources. Ella McLean, who most of us know from the Grace AME Zion Church, on Cleveland Street in Patchogue, has been awarded the Presidential "Top Volunteer Service Award, at Brookhaven Laboratory"
Ella received this award because she gave over Four Thousand Hours of her time, helping others. Four Thousand Hours, roughly equates to volunteering your time for about two and one half years; five days a week, eight hours per day!
Ella has always been a highly respected member of our community, and we would like to add, "helping our neighborhood group," to her extensive list of credits.

What Happened at the Zoning Board of Appeals Meeting?

I attended the Zoning Board meeting in order to see what others thought about the new proposed Artspace Project. A local resident was opposed to the “height” portion of the zoning request; another raised a question about parking. The dissenting residents represented about 15 percent of the people that addressed the Zoning Board.” The majority of Patchogue residents that addressed the Zoning Board were not only in favor of the project, they were adamantly in favor of allowing this project to go forward, without restriction.
One resident spoke from first hand experience about the “Buffalo, NY, “Artspace Project.” He stated that the “Arts Community,” had a positive effect on the area, resulting in an increase in property value.
The focal point of the complex is a Seventy Five foot tower that should have a view of the Great South Bay, and possibly the ocean. The ultimate use of the tower space was intentionally left undefined, giving the “Artist Community,” some room for creativity.
I could visualize a “Wine and Cheese Reception” in the “Tower Room;” the same type of event that the Southampton residents have on their Subway Platforms! We must "just be sure" that we do not allow an artist from Milan Italy to display his “Light Bulb Artwork!” Would I like to attend a Chamber Music Concert, while enjoying Coffee and Pastry, in an outdoor plaza? Absolutely!
The details were being considered by the Zoning Board, but the ultimate decision to allow the Art Space Project to go forward, is up to our Mayor and Trustees.
It was obvious to me that Eighty Five Percent of the people that spoke at that meeting, were really excited about the new possibilities that would “open up” through acceptance of this project.
I saw, genuine enthusiasm, in the faces of the Patchogue Residents that attended that meeting. I am in favor of the project, and am looking forward toward forthcoming cultural events, that will blossom from this Artspace Project.

Patchogue Mayor and Trustees see Artspace as a new beginning for our community
In an attempt to revitalize our Village, our elected officials now need our support. The Artspace project, which involves housing, workspace and display space for Artists, is seen as the "Anchor" that our village needs, in order to revitalize our shopping area.

I was looking for the negative side of Artspace type groups, and could not find any groups that were problematic. Maybe we could hire the Berkeley California Group to build a mini Patchogue Disneyland, by our waterfront!

On Tuesday January 15, 2008, and Wednesday January 16, 2008 the village will hold meetings with the "Zoning Board, Architectural Review Board, and Planning Board. Our presence is desired, so that we could receive input, that should ultimately result in strong taxpayer support for the project.
Immediate passage is needed in order to be eligible for tax credits, to help finance the project.
Our current slate of Patchogue Village Officials, are certainly not part of the "Same Old, Same Old Crowd!"

My Wife loves the "Good Old Days," I thrive in the new world of technology!
- The squares that have photos inside of them, labeled "Video Bar, in the top right hand column, are actually linked to "YouTube" Videos. You can shock your Grandchildren; just tell them that you look at YouTube! If you left click any of the photos, a video will load and play! Now the great part! These videos are automatically selected to agree with my search words. In this case the videos displayed will be about "Patchogue, The Great South Bay, Bellport, and Fire Island." The videos are intermixed with Google Advertisements; a small price to pay for the service rendered! The Video Photos change about every 30 seconds. Just Left Click a Photo and a Video will play!
- Below the Video Bar is the "Local News Feed!" Now! Why is this News Feed so wonderful? It is so wonderful, because it is programmed to search all media, throughout the World, and display only News that matches my search words. In this case my search words are Patchogue, Patchogue Chamber of Commerce, and Patchogue Restaurants. This News section is called an RSS Feed, which stands for "Really Simple Syndication." Up until last year, this type of syndication was reserved for the Commercial News Services. Just click on a category, and that search information will be displayed.
- Below the "Local News Feed" section is the "Archive Section." Not all of this Blog is displayed at one time; older articles are put into a file called an Archive. By Left Clicking the "Month," the material that was published in that month, will be displayed.
- On the bottom of this Newsletter you will find two Items; The first item labeled "Valuable Patchogue Village Information," is the "links" section, which will direct you to other Web Sites that have important information about our village!
- The last section is an RSS Feed from the New York Times. Like the other RSS Feeds it is programmed to look for Patchogue related items. This Feed alternates with Google Advertisements; again a very cheap price to pay for such a World Class Service.
