Local Vandalism Update:

We have an individual, or group of individuals in our Neighborhood Watch Area, that are breaking into Cars and stealing personal possessions. The latest break-in took place this weekend, on Maple Avenue, opposite the Associate.

It might be a good idea to have an alarm installed in your Car, if you do not already have one. Security lights should also be considered.

One Neighborhood Watch Member suggested that we go on Patrol, like we did Fifteen Years ago! When going home, drive around our Neighborhood Watch Area and call the Code or the PD if you see any suspicious activity. I went on Patrol last night; with my Video Camera!

There is a community called Cloverleaf, in Brooksville Florida. In response to similar problems, the local Resident Neighborhood Watch Group, was provided with a "Neighborhood Watch Car" to be used to go on Patrol. In their case the NW Car may have come from the local Sheriffs Department! They drive with a flashing yellow light, on top of the car, some of the time, just to show that they are there. The beauty of this tactic is that everyone can see the Blinking Yellow light from inside of their houses, because of the reflections; including the "Bad Guys!" They just park and hide other times; you never know where they are going to be! This system works; they have virtually no problems. The Village should consider this possibility!

Our Village should make a formal request, to the Police Department, to deploy the the Thirteen Auxiliary Police Officers, that are assigned to the Fifth Precinct, into our area. All that would be required is an occasional "Drive-through."

"We are on our own folks!" Who is going to helping us get rid of these vandals? The Police Department is grossly understaffed; they could actually use three times more Police Officers then they have!

The Patchogue Village Constabulary does not have enough officers to deal with our problems. May I suggest that for the duration of our current problems, the village put three Constables on duty, only during the Nighttime hours. New Constables could be contractually hired as temporary, for a specified period of time.

If hiring more constables is not possible, a private security firm could be hired just to patrol our area during the night. Keep in mind that the break ins have been reported to happen between three and four AM.

WE MUST DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO STOP THESE VANDALS FROM DESTROYING OUR VILLAGE!

We have thousands of really nice people living in our community; I'm sure that we are talking about just a few "Vandals," that must be arrested.

If you have any Ideas that we should consider, please respond to the Email Address below.

If we were able to locate a neighborhood Watch Car, would you be willing to go on patrol? If you are available for this function, please respond to this Email.

Please advise the Neighborhood Watch of any Incidents.
